Please remember to follow directions from the Parking Marshals who will direct you down from the top of Pound Lane and into Victory Field.
Buoyancy Aids: These must be worn by all paddlers ranked in Divisions 7-9 and Geoff Sanders irrespective of race entered. All under 18s must wear buoyancy aids with the exception of those entered in Division 6 or higher with their Team Leader's permission. The race organiser may insist that additional paddlers of any division wear buoyancy aids and or spray decks if conditions on the day warrant this.
Rules: Races will be conducted as per Paddle UK Marathon Racing Rules. Club vests/colours must be worn for Hasler points to be awarded.
Courses:
2 mile Geoff Sanders course - heading downstream from the club for one mile and turning around the buoy above Avoncliff weir before heading back upstream finishing at the club. No portages.
4 mile Divisions 7-9 course - two loops of the Geoff Sanders 2 mile course. No portages.
8 mile Divisions 4-6 course - follows Geoff Sanders course before continuing upstream past the club, portaging up the town weir (marshals will be present to assist) before continuing upstream past the sailing club and turning around the black railway bridge. Competitors then paddle back down to the town weir, portaging and continuing downstream past the club turning around the buoy above Avoncliff weir before paddling upstream to finish at the club.
12 mile Divisions 1-3 course: identical to the 8 mile course however instead of turning at the black railway bridge, competitors paddle up to Staverton weir pool, turning around the buoy before heading back to the black railway bridge and rejoining the 8 mile course route.
Additional Info:
This year we are opening the race up to SUP racers. No inflatable SUPs permitted. Please enter under C1 category in the correct division.
Sea kayaks & surf skis are welcome to enter and will be eligible for club points however, please note the portage area around the town weir can be quite shallow. Safety cover will be provided at various points along the course. As per marathon racing rules, paddlers are obliged to stop and help any fellow paddlers in difficulty. Race control and first aid will be based at the club house.
