Please join us for the Cambridge Hasler Marathon on the 24 March 2024. The race starts at the Cambridge Canoe Club, Sheep's Green, Cambridge (how to find us).
The race takes place on the very scenic Cam River with legs both upstream into the countryside (Granchester) and downstream through Cambridge. The river is quite narrow towards Grantchester, we will do our best to remove any obstacles, yet there still may be some branches and other submerged obstacles. The Cam is a busy river, with rowing boats and punts on certain sections. Other river users should be aware and considerate (the rowing clubs and punting companies are aware of the race), but may not be, so please be alert and follow the rules of the river (i.e. keep right) if you do encounter another boat.
When portaging please be aware of pedestrians and cyclists, of which there are many at both portages. There will be marshals to direct you and warn pedestrians, but the responsibility is on the paddler to avoid contact with pedestrians. The portages are uneven and there may be stones and glass, so wearing sensible footwear is recommended.
Please dress accordingly for the weather. If it's cold, consider wearing thermals, a cag and even pogies. Changing rooms and bathrooms are available at the clubhouse.
- Divisions 1 to 3: 21km with four portages
- Divisions 4 to 6: 14km with four portages
- Divisions 7 to 10: 7km with no portages
- Geoff Sanders (U14): 3km with no portages
