Devizes canoe club is hosting its first Hasler divisional race.
Venue: Chippenham Sailing and Canoe Club, Long Close, SN15 3JY.
Timings: Check in from 08:00-09:15
Briefing 09:15 for Team Leaders only
Under14s Geoff Sanders Trophy starts from 09:45
Hasler Starts from 10:30
Races: Divs 1-3 K1 & Divs 2-3 K2 (12 miles)
Divs 4-6 K1 & K2 (8 miles)
(Larger classes may be split depending on numbers entered)
Divs 7-9 K1 & K2 (4miles)
Under14s A, B, C (2 miles)
Fees: £12 Senior £10 Junior. £5 Under14s races
Entries: By British Canoeing Race Entry System. Any entries received later than 1600 on 13th May will incur a £3 late entry fee per paddler. Team payment via BACs (for details please contact info@devizescanoeclub.co.uk or Team or individual payments by cash on the day. Any payments after 13th May by cash on the day please.
Parking: Free on site parking available please share cars if possible. Follow directions from parking Marshalls as space is a bit limits especially if the field becomes very wet.
Sorry no camping is available on site.
Buoyancy Aids: These must be worn by all paddlers ranked in divisions 7-9 and Geoff Sanders irrespective of race entered. All under 18s must wear buoyancy aids with the exception of those entered in div 6 or higher with their Team Leader's permission. The race organiser may insist that additional paddlers of any division wear buoyancy aids and or spray decks if conditions on the day warrant this.
Rules: Races will be conducted as per BC Marathon Racing Rules. Club vests/colours must be worn for Hasler points to be awarded.
Course: The course is a 4 mile circuit race. Hasler races have a portage on each circuit. The portage is approx 100m across a grass field. Footwear is strongly recommended due potential for thistles in the field and slippery muddy banks and access and egress points.
Additional Info: Sea kayaks & surf skis are welcome to enter and will be eligible for club points. Safety cover will be provided and various points along the course. As per Marathon racing rules, paddlers are obliged to stop and help any fellow paddlers in difficulty. Race control and first aid will be based at the CSCC club house.
Toilets and limited change facilities are available on site.
Hot food, cakes, hot & cold drinks will be available.
COURSE INFORMATION
Starts: All starts will be upstream of the club house and be directed by the bank-side starter. Races that have large number of entries may be split into two fields to allow everyone a fair opportunity at the start line.
Under14s 2 mile course: Start is upstream of the club house. Anticlockwise turn around buoy past blue bridge and return past the club, paddle up stream to anticlockwise turn buoy near black bridge. Paddle downstream to finish at the club.
Hasler 4mile circuit: Start is upstream of the club house. Anticlockwise turn around buoy just beyond town bridge, return past club, paddle up stream to portage directed on the right bank. Complete portage as directed by Marshall’s, rejoin river and paddle downstream to finish at club.
