Elmbridge Junior Easter Half Marathon K1/C1 for Juniors under 18 only. For the first time in its history this year we will be accepting entries for Juniors under 18.
Who will set the new U17 and U18 record ?!!
A time-trial event from Wey Kayak Club to Thames Lock using the Wey Navigation.
Approximately 12 miles in distance and includes a number of lock type portages.
All entrants must have a valid PaddleUK membership.
Classes: 7 classes for boys and girls. U12, U13, U14, U15, U16, U17 and U18 (age at 1st Janaury 2025).
Prize Giving: To the fastest boy and girl in each age group, providing there are 3 or more paddlers in class. Prize giving will be held at Elmbridge Canoe Club.
Entry Fees: £15.00 per boat. Later entries will be accepted on the day. Please bring correct cash if entering on the day.
Payment: Via MRC online entry system.
Venue: Wey Navigation. A narrow working canalised river managed by the National Trust.
Start: Waterside Centre (Wey Kayak Club), Riverside, Guildford, GU1 1LW.
From Guildford take the A320 towards Woking. After you have crossed under the A3 flyover and its slip road, turn left at the next roundabout and then take the first left. This will take you down to the Waterside Centre (Wey Kayak Club).
Support: There is a towpath which follows the route all the wey! Help on the 9 portages is permitted and encouraged.
Information about accessing portages will be supplied at the start.
N.B. NO VEHICULAR ACCESS TO TRIGGS LOCK PLEASE.
Important Notice:
This Navigation is National Trust property and their bylaws do not enable them to authorise competition that could endager the safety or enjoyment of other users. I cannot stress how important it is for all competitors and supports to be considerate at all times of other river and towpath users, especially if following on bike / providing assistance at the portages.
There will be a zero tolerance policy on aggressive or confrontational behaviour.
This event will be at risk if complaints are recieved.
Start / Timings:
- Briefing 10:00am at the Waterside Centre. Please attend.
- All paddlers are required to collect their designated number board from the race leader who will be visible at the start of the day.
- Start times: 10:30 - 11:05am
- Paddlers will be set off by the race starter in age group classes (youngest first) at 5 minute intervals, in order to avoid congestion at portages.
Finish (RACE): Thames Lock, Jessamy Road, Weybridge, KT13 8LB.
Finish (ELMBRIDGE C.C). Elmbridge Canoe Club, Walton Lane, Weybridge, KT13 8LT.
All paddlers are rcommended to paddle down to Elmbridge Canoe Club to get changed, get warm and have some food and a hot drink and be picked up by parents.
N.B. If river levels are high all paddlers will need to be picked up at the race finish (Thames Lock) to avoid paddling onto the Thames and across Shepperton Weir. If this is compulsary, it will be stated at the race briefing.
Please bring buoyancy aids as these will likely be compulsaory if river levels are high.
