SEVERAL FAMILIES OF SWANS ALONG THIS STRETCH, PLEASE TRY AND AVOID THEM;
HIGH BANKS ESPECIALLY TOWARDS THE DOCKS;
FISHERMEN WILL BE ABOUT MOSTLY ON THE BOATHOUSE SIDE;
DON’T DRINK THE WATER!
THERE WILL BE SEVERAL SAFETY PADDLERS BUT THEY CAN’T BE EVERYWHERE
IF ANOTHER PADDLER IS IN THE WATER YOU MUST OFFER ASSISISTANCE
IF YOU NEED TO RETIRE PLEASE TELL A MARSHAL
AT THE END PLEASE ENSURE YOU RETURN YOUR NUMBER BOARD OR YOU WILL BE CHARGED £5,

COURSE INFORMATION
THE START LINE FOR ALL IS APPROX 300M TO THE RIGHT/SOUTH OF THE LANDING STAGE. ASSEMBLE BEYOND AND WAIT TILL CALLED.
ALL PADDLERS PADDLE PAST THE LANDING STAGE AND THROUGH THE BRIDGE. KEEP RIGHT AT ALL TIMES
UNDER 14 GS
CONTINUE TO THE FIRST BUOY AND TURN ANTICLOCKWISE
PADDLE BACK UNDER THE BRIDGE TO THE END OF THE STRAIGHT, TURN ANTICLOCKWISE AGAIN AND PADDLE TO THE FINISH OPPOSITE THE LANDING STAGE.
DIVISIONS 1-9
CONTINUE ALL THE WAY INTO THE DOCKS TO THE VERY END WHERE YOU WILL SEE A CRANE, TURN ANTICLOCKWISE ROUND THE BOUY. PADDLE BACK DOWN THE STRAIGHT TO THE SITE.
DIVISIONS 7-9
CONTINUE PAST THE SITE TO THE END OF THE STRAIGHT, TURN ANTICLOCKWISE ROUND THE BUOY AND FINISH OPPOSITE THE LANDING STAGE.
DIVISIONS 1-6
WHEN YOU REACH THE SITE, PORTAGE THROUGH THE LANDING STAGE. THERE WILL BE ENOUGH SPACE FOR 3 BOATS TO EXIT AT A TIME. PLEASE EXAMINE THE SURFACE BEFOREHAND AND WEAR APPROPRIATE FOOTWEAR.
ONCE BACK ON THE WATER CONTINUE TO THE END OF THE STRAIGHT AND THROUGH THE BIG BLUE BRIDGE.
CONTINUE FOR A FURTHER 1.5 MILES UNDER 2 MORE BRIDGES TILL A LARGE LEFT HAND BEND. YOU MUST TAKE THIS TO THE RIGHT OF THE BUOY SO AS NOT TO CUT THE CORNER.
AFTER ANOTHER HALF A MILE TURN AT THE BUOY ANTI CLOCKWISE.
DIVISIONS 4-6
CONTINUE BACK TO THE SITE UNDER THE 3 BRIDGES
DIVISIONS 1-3
CONTINUE BACK UNDER THE FIRST TWO BRIDGES. KEEP RIGHT AND GO INTO THE INLET BEFORE THE BLUE BRIDGE WHERE YOU WILL TURN ANTI CLOCKWISE. EXIT FROM THE INLET AND TURN LEFT TO GO BACK TO THE FAR BUOY . DIV 3s BE CAREFUL OF FASTER DIV4s PASSING TO GO UNDER THE BLUE BRIDGE.
AT THE FAR BUOY AGAIN TURN ANTI CLOCKWISE AND RETURN TO SITE.
PROVISIONAL START TIMES, MAY BE IMPACTED BY LATE ENTRIES OR CANCELLATIONS
GEOFF SANDERS U14 STARTS 10.15, MAY BE SPLIT OR ALL TOGETHER

VENUE
Gloucester Boathouse, David Hook Way, Gloucester GL2 5LE
SITE INFORMATION
It is a permanent building next to the Gloucester Sharpness Canal, with toilet facilities.
The entrance to the site is currently shared with a NHS Testing site. If you have a dash cam please remove it as they are a bit funny about photography! Hopefully boats on your roof will indicate you have not come for a Covid test!
There is free car parking included in the entry fee, please follow signage and directions from marshals.

Geoff Sanders U14 (2miles) A, B, C
DOUBLES 2, 3,(12 miles) 4,5,6 (8 miles) 7, 8, 9 (4 miles)
ROUTES
We have permission again to paddle into the historic Gloucester Docks, all classes except GS U14 will turn in the Docks.
Div 1-6 will portage once through the site at the end of the first lap. We recently trialled this on the Assessment Race.
Keep river right, turns are anti clockwise
RULES
To be run in accordance with current BC Marathon Rules. Classes may be merged if there are insufficient entries.
All competitors in 7,8,9 and U14 must wear approved buoyancy aids. Those in classes above are recommended to but may choose not to do so at their own risk.
Canoeing and Kayaking are ‘Assumed risk’- ‘Water contact sports’ that may carry attendant risks. Participants should be aware of and accept these risks, and be responsible for their own action and involvement.
South West Regional Number Boards will be provided to be displayed vertically. Failure to return will result in a charge of £5.
All paddlers must wear club colours to score Hasler points.
Please inform the race organisers of any medical condition that may affect any paddler’s performance or put them at extra risk.
Competitors must render their craft sufficiently buoyant to remain afloat and support the crew’s weight in the event of a capsize

Unlike many races there is no charge for car parking on the site, GCC have paid for a licence to use it, this is included in your entry fee.
HAZARDS
Motorised craft, fishermen, swans, overhanging trees, some high banks.
PRIZES
First 3 places in all classes with 4 or more entries, first 2 places for classes with 3 entries.
Prizes will also be awarded to ALL GS U14 paddlers
REFRESHMENTS
Will be provided free of charge for competitors after the event. Hot and cold food and drinks will be available for sale for competitors and supporters before and after races.

Direct payment is not available online so checkout without paying and then make bank transfer for correct amount. Payment is required in advance to limit cash contact on the day.

Payments made after the deadline will incur a late entry charge of £5.
If you enter before and have to withdraw we will refund the entry fee provided you let us know by Friday 17th September midnight.

COVID GUIDANCE
There will be no on site briefing, maps will be displayed with descriptions.
Please do not travel if you have recently tested positive or display symptoms.
One representative from each club to check in, and provide contact details.
Please bring a facemask to use the toilets in the building
Avoid congregating in large groups especially along the towpath which is to be kept clear at all times. There is restricted access during Divisions 1-6 due to the portage.
