MEDWAY MARATHON
Sunday 28th July 2024
A marathon race on the River Medway from Maidstone to Tonbridge, a distance of 17.4 miles.
There is also a touring class, which is an open class and will include all non racing boats.
START: The Malta Inn, Allington, Maidstone, ME14 3AS which is situated on Forstal Road off the A229 Chatham road out of Maidstone. It is also adjacent to the M20 motorway (Junction 6).
All cars must be removed from the Malta Inn car park by 11:00 am.
Car parking at the Malta is monitored by a parking app, which competitors will need to comply with. Please ask for details when checking in.
COURSE: 17.4 miles from Allington Lock to Tonbridge Canoe Club. There are 9 portages.
The course is placid water and therefore suitable for all levels of ability.
FINISH: Tonbridge Canoe Club, New Wharf Road, Tonbridge. Car parking at Lower Castle Fields car park (free on Sundays at present, but this might change, please check!) at TN9 1HR

CLASSES:. There will be K1 and K2 races for each of the following classes:
Class A All Div 1, 2 & 3 paddlers
Class B All Div 4, 5 & 6 paddlers
Class C All Div 7, 8 & 9 paddlers
PRIZES: Medway Marathon T shirts will be presented to 1st, 2nd & 3rd in each class subject to sufficient entries.
NUMBERS: We will be using the L&SE region marathon number boards.
B.C.U. All paddlers must hold current British Canoeing membership. Cards to be shown at booking in. Event fee of £5.00 payable for non BC members.
REFRESHMENTS: Will be available at the finish.at Tonbridge Canoe Club.
ENTRIES: £12.00 per seat. Late entries accepted on the day at £3.00 extra.
