Nottingham Kayak Club Hasler Marathon Race Sunday 22nd May 2022
A Midlands region Hasler qualifying event and a Geoff Saunders Memorial
Race
Venue Nottingham Kayak Club, Trentside North, West Bridgford,
Nottingham NG2 5FA (see later for directions and parking details)
Course Divisions 1, 2 and 3 singles and 2 & 3 doubles, 12 miles, 1 portage
(One 4 mile loop followed by an 8 mile loop including a “false
portage”, 3 turns in total)
Divisions 4, 5 and 6 singles and 4, 5 and 6 doubles, 8 miles, no
portages. Out and back race with 1 turn
Divisions 7, 8 ,9 singles and 7, 8, & 9 doubles 4 miles, no portages. Out
and back race with 1 turn
GS A, GS B and GS C 2 laps of "round the bridges" with 4 turns and no
portages.
The starts and finishes for all classes will be adjacent to the
clubhouse.
Timing Check in from 9.30 am

GSA, GSB and GSC Briefing 10-40 Start 11.00
Rules All paddlers ranked in division 7,8,9 and GS paddlers must wear
approved buoyancy aids
All boats must have approved buoyancy to keep the boat and crew
afloat in the event of a capsize and be fitted with a white number
board to be provided by the paddler. The race will be held in
accordance with British Canoeing marathon racing rules.
PLEASE NOTE THAT AS A MIDLANDS HASLER RACE COMPETITORS WILL NEED TO PROVIDE THEIR OWN NUMBER BOARD MARKED WITH THEIR RACE NUMBER IN ACCORDANCE WITH RULE 15a
Boat Washing The Canal and Rivers Trust are fighting a battle against the
spread of invasive plant species such as Japanese Knotweed,
Himalayan Balsam, Giant Hogweed and Floating Pennywort, in
the canal and river system in the country. Pictures on the CRT
website show the effect that the spread of these plants can
have on our waterways. To aid them in this, will you please
wash and dry your boat before coming to the Nottingham
race and again at home after the race before going on other
water.
Prizes Prizes will be awarded to first place in all divisions and other
prizes depending on numbers in the race.
Prizes will also be given to the first female paddler, first junior
and first C boat paddler in each class. Second,
third and other categories depending on number entries.
Refreshments Light refreshments will be available to competitors and a
variety of hot and cold refreshments will be on sale.
Fees Seniors in Divisions 1-9 £10.00
Juniors in Divisions 1-9 £8.00
GS classes £2.50
Entries made on the day will be £5-00 extra
Day event tickets £5.00 extra for those without verifiable current
membership of BC , CANI, SCA or WCA.
Entries made on the day must be paid for in cash
Entries May be made by using the current race management system and
payment made to Nottingham Kayak Club.

Safety
Canoeing and kayaking is by its nature an unpredictable sport and therefore
inherently involves an element of risk. An entry into the event has taken this
into consideration.
