PORTAGE: The portage is a short walk from the start and paddlers are recommended to inspect the portage before the start. It is a beach portage on a newly graded piece of riverbank. Although every effort will be made to clear the route, appropriate footwear is recommended as there may be debris and uneven ground.
HAZARDS: Care should be taken around rowers, fishermen and other river users. There may be nesting swans and other birds All paddlers should be aware of oncoming paddlers and keep to the right of the river even though the Trent is quite wide, this is especially important after the start for paddlers moving down the river as lower divisions may still be on the start line.
Subject to river conditions, the bottom turn may be around an island. There is a narrow gap followed by a weir (which will have safety cover). Do not try to go through more than 1 boat at a time, there is nearly 2 miles after this point before the finish, so plenty of time to recover.
SAFETY: All paddlers in Divs 7 - 10 and GS must wear approved buoyancy aids. Team leaders to decide if paddlers in higher divisions should wear them.
RULES: The race will be run in accordance with the current marathon racing rules.
PRIZES: For all races depending on entry.
NOTE: Burton Phoenix Canoe Club reserves the right without prior notice to alter any of these arrangements should the weather or other circumstances warrant.
